Wyatt asks:
Does anyone know what the terrain around Kiev is like?
Yes, I have run in most of their terrain types. There are
actually about 4 distinct types (incl. the peculiar "Republican
Stadium" type). I'm going to see if I can locate the maps.
Basically
Type 1 ~= Fort Ancient (OCIN)
Type 2 ~= Yukon
Type 3 ~= WOC 1995 Germany
Type 4 = post-Soviet urban developments with crowds
My one suspicion is that the forest floor will be _vastly_ cleaner than
Japan, as locals tend to comb the forests for deadfall-firewood.
Vlad's impression of the '4-types' of terrain around Kiev
---------------------------------------------------------
Type 1 = 1992-78.jpg
Type 2 = 1992-77.jpg
They (WOC07 organizers) do have some maps on the new web page:
http://www.orient.org.ua/oldmapswoc2007/
Type 1 = Maps 1, 2 (note 2 is a subarea of 1992-78)
Type 2 = Maps 3, 4, 6, 7, 9
Type 3 = Map 8
Type 4 = Map 5
The typology is mine, not theirs. Their web page came up
after I wrote my original letter, so I wouldn't really classify
Type 3 as "~= WOC 1995" anymore. It is much more like the Florida
map we are working on right now for the Team Fundraiser. I can't
think of a closer analogy in North America.
Looking further at the embargoed and training area list
at http://www.woc2007.org.ua/en/embargoed_areas ... the numerology
starts all over. Not sure how best to write this. But, as far
as I can see:
E1 = {M8 = Tp3; M6 = Tp2}
E2 = ?
E3 = {M3, M4, M9} = Tp2
E4 = {M1, M2} = 1992-78 = Tp1
E5 = Tp2
E6 = M5 = Tp4
M7 = ?
Tr1 = Tp2/3
Tr2 = Tp1
Tr3 = Tp1
Tr4 = Tp4
Tr5 = 1992-77 = Tp2
